Where Little Roots Grow Wild
KinderFarm began with a simple belief: young children thrive when they can dig their hands into soil, watch a seed become a plant, and feel truly connected to the people and place around them.
We believe young children learn best when they’re free to touch, taste, observe, and discover - and that the outdoors is the richest classroom there is.
Every morning our small group of kids gathers at the farm gate. Some days we fill the bird feeders and watch who comes. Some days a single caterpillar leads us on a rich investigation. Some days the meadow outside the farm fence beckons. We follow the children’s curiosity, and it never runs out.
We are a play-based, fully outdoor educational space for children ages 3 through 6. Rain, mud, and wonder are all welcome here.

Kids will enjoy the abundance of nature in the fall by harvesting and tasting fresh produce, exploring seeds, leaves, and flowers, observing birds and critters, learning about migration, and noticing the changes on the farm as the days shorten.

Winter is an exciting time to move our bodies outside! Winter explorations will include learning about animal tracks, observing winter tree shapes, making bird feeders, and cooking warm foods and teas to warm our bodies while we take reading breaks in the shelter.

Our Story
KinderFarm founder and director, Emily, has spent over a decade tending land and cultivating community — fourteen years farming across the West Coast and the Midwest, learning the rhythms of different climates, seasons, and growing traditions along the way. She completed her Master of Social Work degree with a year—long study of garden education with preschool children. Her path then led her to FoodCorps, where she worked to bring healthy food access and hands-on nutrition education to children in communities that needed it most. From there, she stepped into the role of director at an educational farm school, where she affirmed her true calling: guiding children through the wonder of growing food, caring for animals, and learning from the natural world.
Through all of these experiences, one thread remained constant — a deep desire to help children connect with themselves, with the land, and with the community around them. Emily saw, again and again, how time outdoors and real, tactile work could ground children in ways that no classroom alone could replicate.
KinderFarm was born from that vision. It's a place where children aren't just taught about nature — they live it. They plant, harvest, muck, build, and explore. They learn patience from a slow-growing carrot and resilience from a chicken that won't cooperate. They build friendships in the garden beds and discover a little more of who they are with each passing season.
We believe childhood should be rooted — in curiosity, in community, and in the quiet, steady lessons the earth has to teach. That belief is the soil KinderFarm grows from, and it's what we invite every family who joins us to be part of.
Our Journey
Where we’re at…
It has been so rewarding to watch the vision we've talked about and planned for years begin to take shape! The fence is up — redirecting our beautiful elk neighbors — and the ground has been tilled and is ready for planting. As we move toward our open house and the start of the fall session, our days are full: building garden boxes, planting fall crops, lining the fences with shrubs, herbs, and flowers to feed the bees and butterflies, and breaking ground on our "covered classroom."

KinderFarm will always change and grow, but our vision stays the same: a space with endless room for children's curiosity to lead the way. A place where plants, animals, and humans all have room to thrive. A place that welcomes everyone and feels nourishing to body and spirit. A garden where life and learning are celebrated year-round!
As we open our garden gate for the first session this fall, we're looking for a small group of "Seed Families" to join us in bringing this vision to life. You'll watch as the space takes shape around (and with!) your child — planting the first crops, digging the garden beds, moving into our covered classroom together. It's a chance to be part of KinderFarm's story from the very beginning. Kids of all types can thrive in an outdoor educational setting! If your child is curious, independent, and eager to move, KinderFarm is a great fit! We welcome all potty-confident children ages 3 through 6. If you have questions or concerns about if this program is a good fit for your family, please reach out to us!

The sky is the limit for learning in an outdoor setting. Our programs are designed to compliment and support traditional preschool or homeschool curriculums and to provide nature and outdoor education for children in all stages of education. Farm school is the perfect setting for children to practice social-emotional skills like empathy, confidence, and cooperation; fine and gross motor skills and sensory learning; explore nature and science through hands-on engagement, and follow their curiosity wherever it leads them.

At KinderFarm we embrace the philosophy “no bad weather, only bad clothing!”
We believe that all weather offers the opportunity to explore and experience the benefits of nature. Upon registration, you will receive a list of required and/or suggested gear. These items will help your child stay safe and comfortable in varying weather conditions.
We will, however, alter our schedule as needed in cases of extreme heat, extreme cold, smoke, high winds, or lightning.

For a day at KinderFarm, kids should bring appropriate clothing and gear for the weather, a water bottle, a snack, and a lunch. We will do lots of “farm snacking” to taste fresh produce, and will occasionally prepare a meal together in addition to the snack and lunch that children have brought with them.

Each day at KinderFarm is unique! What we do each day changes with the weather, the season, and with the interests of individual children and the group! We aim to follow a general rhythm as well as staying flexible and open! Our (loose) schedule might look like this:
9:00 to 9:15 - “Community time” - slowly gather and greet each other, share information between parents, etc.
9:15 - 9:30 - circle time to share a song and observations about weather, the environment around us
9:30 - 10:15 - unstructured exploration, with option to work in stations (arranged art or nature projects)
10:15 - 10:45 - gather for snack from home or farm snack
10:45 - 11:45 - option to continue unstructured exploration or work on farm project (planting, greenhouse seeding, turning compost, etc.)
11:45 - 12:30 - gather for lunch
12:30 - 12:45 - gather for closing circle, song, nature journals
12:45 - 1:00 - afternoon “community time” as parents arrive and kids slowly depart

To enroll your child in a KinderFarm program, please send us an email at kinderfarmnorthbend@gmail.com
Then we can chat via email, phone, or a farm visit to answer any questions you have. We will send you an application form to fill out and a contract to sign. Once we have received those and your payment, your child will be ready to start!
Enrollment is limited to 5 children per session, so if a session is already full, we will put your name on a waitlist.
